I took a long break from this blog. I have not slowed down or stopped fly fishing, quite the contrary, I have been rethinking my relationship with the culture of fly fishing and the role that I wish to play within it. Long story short, I missed this silly little blog.
This past October I traveled up to Maine for a wedding and we all know that is just an excuse to go fishing. While Brook Trout are usually why I make the drive, this was October, and many of the famous Brook Trout fisheries were closed for the winter. This trip was all about Landlocked Atlantic Salmon, and the wedding of course (lol). I decided if I was going to target Landlocks I would have to fish them in their native waters and believe it or not they are only native in 3 locations in the United States. Grand Lake Stream is one of them. I did not fish it enough to give an educated review of the river, but there were a lot of Smallmouth in the river and I did not catch a Brookie. That being said, it was beautiful and the Salmon were no exception. If you have not caught a wild Landlocked Salmon in Maine- go as soon as you possibly can.
